Black Ingenuity: Past, Present and Future Innovators

“Black Ingenuity: Past, Present and Future Innovators” features Blacks in Minnesota who made an impact in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields through their research, inventions and designs. Visitors learn about Frederick McKinley Jones, co-founder of Thermo King, whose refrigerated units revolutionized the long-distance transport of perishable goods. The exhibition also features Dr. Reatha Clark King, a hidden figure in the Apollo 11 space mission, and several other innovators including Alexander Miles, Clarence “Cap” Wigington, John J. Henry and Damaris Hollingsworth. The exhibition also highlights programs preparing future innovators such as Minnesota STEM Partnership and Young Builders and Designers. Displayed January – March 2020. (Ended early because of COVID-19 shutdown).
