The Absence of Justice

01 Jun 2021 - 31 Dec 2021

Through various works of art, this exhibit explores how Black people have been historically subjected to systemic racism in America. Although the Pledge of Allegiance speaks of “justice for all” and the Declaration of Independence boasts that “all men are created equal,” history has shown these ideas to not be fully applied to Black people. There’s a current debate about whether America is a “racist” country and what does “justice” really mean. Come see this exhibit and draw your own conclusions. This exhibit is co-curated by Artist Beverly Tipton Hammond and Tina Burnside, cofounder and curator at MAAHMG. The exhibit features artwork from: Broderick Poole, Sean Garrison Phillips, A. Drew Hammond, Beverly Tipton Hammond, Katherine Mommsen, Faith Blackstone and Donald Walker. The exhibit is on display June 1 through December 31, 2021.
